Decatur Alumni Association Auxiliary Board

The Decatur Alumni Association's Auxiliary Board was formed in 1987 to help preserve all of the DHS's memorabilia and to be of service to the host 25-year host class of each year's banquet.  With this being the final 25-year class that graduated from Decatur High School we will now be going back to committee's handling each year's banquet.

This year we had planned to hold the banquet in the Decatur City Hall but due to renovations of the city hall falling behind on some things, we had to move the banquet this year down to the Decatur Fire Hall.  We hope that you have all enjoyed gathering together here in the fire hall and have enjoyed the music of "Jimmy and the Giants".

At the beginning of each year, biographical sketches will be going out to the 50-year class members, and other classmates that went to school with them but did not graduate with them, to be filled out and returned as soon as they possibly can, so that the program for the banquet can be all compiled and printed.  Members of the 50-year class will also be asked to attend the meetings so that they can give their input on everything that is discussed and decided upon by the April meeting and then the program booklet can then be finished and sent to the printer.

Thanks to the help of Rex and Cathy Sears and Skinny Kellogg and his helpers, all the Associations equipment was moved out of the school building and is now being stored in one of John Hightree's storage units free of charge for two years.  Composites and trophies right now are in storage at the First Nebraska Bank's basement.  As soon as renovations are completed at the Decatur City Hall, the trophies will then be placed in the new trophy cases that the Association has been holding a Class challenge on to see which class could donate the most money for the trophy cases to win the challenge.  We had hoped to be able to show off the new trophy cases at this year's banquet.

Still needed are funds for a composite display stand, case or whatever for all the graduate composites.  We are still looking at options for this so we still do not know what the cost will be on this.

Due to the heaviness of our older tables and having to load them up and then carry them up the city hall steps, it was the decision of all alumni members present at the meetings, to take these over to Martindale's Auctions in Onawa, IA to sell and then work on replacing these with the lighter white tables.   These type of tables would be much lighter and easier to move around and set up.  At present we have purchased six (6) new white 6' (six foot) tables to replace some of the ones that we sold.  We still have ten of the 8 foot white tables in storage.

Many interested individuals have donated and/or loaned numerous pictures and memorabilia to the Association to be displayed and preserved.  We thank all those who have donated or loaned items for our banquets.

Future Goals of the Alumni Association:

To Maintain a site for future banquets and to continue the sponsorship of the Decatur Alumni Banquets.

To Maintain "All" records of Decatur High School and the Decatur Alumni Association.

Find permanent suitable storage space for all our equipment and records.

Continue to repair graduate pictures as needed, identify as many graduates as possible in some pictures with no names.

Continue to repair trophies as needed and inventory all trophies in trophy cases and memorabilia in drawers.
