Roy Byram (Deceased)

 September 24, 1922-----January 6, 2006

Rev. Phil Sloat will officiate a graveside service at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, at Hillcrest Cemetery in Decatur for Roy Malcolm Byram of Las Vegas, NV.  He died Jan. 6, 2006, at the age of 83.  Military honors will be conducted by VFW Gleason-Rogers Post No. 6926 and American Legion Rogers-Crum Post NO. 215.

Roy was born Sept. 24, 1922, in Decatur, the son of Roy Meacham and Myrtle Irene (Rogers) Byram.  He graduated Valedictorian of the Decatur High School Class of 1939.  He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Nebraska in 1943.

He was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant, serving in the 101st Air-Born during World War II.  Following his military service, he received a law degree from Harvard Law School in 1948.  He practiced law in Omaha and San Bernadino, CA.

March 24, 1956, he married Alice Louise Johnston of West Lebanon, IN, after which he opened a law office in West Chicago, IL.  In the early 1980s he moved his practice back to Nebraska and in 1996 retired to Las Vegas.

Preceding him in death were his wife; parents; sister, Roxene Gloria Smith; and brother, Charles Earl Byram.

Survivors include two brothers, Roger Byram of Corpus Christi, TX and John Byram of San Jose, CA; two sisters, Beth J. O'Donnell and Janice Irene Wells, both of Phoenix, AZ; three daughters, Susan L. Preucil of Fresno, CA,, Johanna L. Byram of Yorkville, Il, and Caroline R. Paull of Somonauk, Il; and 12 grandchildren, John, Tara, Dale, Brian, Amanda, Hillary and Emily Paull, Dylan, Sterling, Nichole and Preston Preucil and Nicole Fleehart.

Hamel-Peck-Pelan Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
