Norma Baker Lewis (Deceased)

 

Norma Mary Maxine Lewis, 82, of Decatur died January 30, 2001.  She was born March 14, 1918, in Decatur, the daughter of Roy and Florence Helen (Murphy) Baker.  She graduated from Decatur High School in 1935.

February 21, 1939, she married Dale Ira Lewis in Tekamah.  She attended Dana College and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, receiving a bachelor of science degree in 1973 from Midland Lutheran College.  She taught at McCauley rural school, Elm Creek rural school and retired in 1985 from Macy Public Schools.

Memberships included Holy Family Catholic Church and its Alter Society, VFW Auxiliary, Decatur Boosters Club and founding member of H-Lo Bridge Club.  She spent her spare time cooking and sewing.

Preceding her in death were here parents; husband on September 1, 1966, in Sioux City; daughter Mary Judith Feiling; sisters, June and Melva; and brothers Mark and John.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Priscilla and Dennis Beckmann of Bellevue; six grandchildren and spouses, James and Rita Beckmann of Lincoln, Ty Beckmann of Bellevue; Edward and Regina Feiling and Eric and Kristen Feiling, all of Tekamah, Earl and Chris Feiling of Blair and Elizabeth Feiling of Decatur; four great-grandchildren, Dustin, Riley, Wyatt and Julia; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Sara Baker of Decatur; nieces and nephews.

Funeral mass was said February 3 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Decatur with Rev. Martin P. Conley Mass celebrant.  Roger Severson was musician.

Casket bearers were Ed Feiling, Earl Feiling, Eric Feiling, Chad Baker, James Beckmann and Ty Beckmann.

A rosary service was held February 2 at Holy Family and burial was at Hillcrest Cemetery, Decatur.  Rod Baker sang "Amazing Grace".

Arrangements were by Pearson Funeral Home and Cremation Service at Onawa, IA.
