Gertrude (Y-Deen) Jackson:

Blencoe, IA.  Widow.  Eight children & 22 grandchildren & 6 great-grandchildren.  7 of my children are married.  The 8th is an assistant administrator of the US Native-Eskimo Hospital in Kotzebue, Alaska.  I enjoy painting, hunting & fishing.

Gertrude Scott, 90, Onawa, Iowa, formerly of Blencoe, Iowa, passed away
Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at her residence at Premier Estates Assisted
Living in Onawa, Iowa.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Rush Family Chapel with
Robert Hettinger officiating. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. until service
time.
Gertrude was born October 25, 1920 near Decatur, NE, the daughter of Emil
and Mamie (Edwards) Y'Deen. She graduated from Decatur High School. In
1941, she married Charles Thieman and 8 children were born to this union.
After Charles' death, she married Don Jacobson in 1967 and after Don's
death she married Ivel Scott in 1984. Ivel passed away in 1993. .
She worked at Armours Packing Plant, T&H Café, home assistance to the
elderly, Glenwood State Hospital School, Monona County Public Health and
the West Monona School. Gert was the mayor of Blencoe, state recorder
for Royal Neighbors, former member of Federated Women's Club and the
Loess Hills Hospitality Association.
Gert was an adventurer and never saw a road she didn't like. "I wonder
where that road goes" was a common saying. She would load up 8 kids and
head west to see the ocean and visit family. She loved the outdoors and
enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, flowers, birds, wildlife, and
sharing this love with her children and grandchildren. She was a
painter, quilter and photographer.
Survivors include her children, Margaret (Jeff) Blatchford of Onawa,
Michael (Sheryl) Jacobson of Holmen, WI, Curtis Jacobson of Sioux City,
IA, Beth (Larry) Porter of Glenwood, IA, Rebecca (Dan) Fitzpatrick of
Sioux City, Barbara (Sid) Stowe of Council Bluffs, IA and Wayne (Marlis)
Thieman of LeMars, IA; a daughter-in-law, Deb Thieman of Sioux City; a
special nephew and his wife, Vic and Margaret Anderson of Blencoe; a
step-daughter, Judy (Jim) Stafford of Wilsonville, ME; a sister, Luella
Norris of Elgin, IL; 22 grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren; 6
great-great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to her 3 husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents;
a son, David Thieman; two grandsons; a great-granddaughter; two brothers
and six sisters.
Memorials may be directed to the Blencoe Fire Department or the Blencoe
Community Center.
